Basic facts

This week for speed demon I did all ten multiplication. I got some wrong but I fixed it to make it right. My time was 11 minutes and 5 second. This is a challenge to see how good you are at your multiplication. It was very hard. My next challenge is to get faster and get them all right.

SSR selfie | The Gruffalo

For ssr I read a book called The Gruffalo. It was about a mouse who lied so he avoids being eaten at the ending everybody's scared of him.

Monday routine

What is a recount?

A recount is retelling something that happened in the past.

A recount structure stands for tree

The t stands for title the title tells the readers what the story's about.

The r stands for reveal it tells the readers a intro of what the story gonna be about.

The e stands for event it tells the readers about the whole story.

The e stands for ending it tells the reader about your reflection of what you did in the story.

The gruffalo

For art we had to colour in section of the gruffalo.

We were put into groups and we had a section each to colour in.

We had to practise blending with a scrap piece of paper.

We coloured in our art and blended different colours together to get the right colour.

When we were finished we hung it on the wall.

It was tiring.

Safety plan

This week, we assessed the risk, hazard and consequences that could happen while lighting a fire and making s'mores over the fire, then doing it in person. We made a safety plan for making a fire and for making s'mores.

First, we discussed the hazard and risks for the first safety plan. Then, we wrote down the hazard and risks. A hazard while making a fire, is the fire itself. However, the consequences could be getting burnt by the fire.

After writing down the hazards and risks, we talked about what the consequences could be, how we could prevent it, who is responsible for it and the emergency plan.

Next, we made another safety plan for making s'mores with the fire. We repeated the process but made different hazards. After making the safety plans, we went onto making the fire and making our s'mores.

Mr Ogilvie lit the fire and started to demonstrate how to make the marshmallows. After the demonstration, we made the s'mores.

I found this activity quite hard because I couldn't cook the marshmallows without burning them.

Governing Topics

Governing topics are actions that the government can control.  The two most important topics to me are health & economy.

Health is keeping people healthy to stop spreading the virus.

Economy helps you to spend your money wisely.

I chose these two topics because they are important to me.

Time

Rounding is finding the nearest ten, hundred, thousand.

Addition and division are both strategies the are used for rounding. To round the person needs to find the mean, to find the mean get a set of numbers like 5,7,1,9,3 and then add them altogether which would make the number 25. Then divide them by the amount of numbers there are which makes 5.

Now this is were the rounding begins, if the number is 5-9 that makes the number go up. If the number 0-4 it makes the number go down. For example 21.85 then it becomes 21.9

Risk Assessment

First we had to go and read about our plan as a group.

Then we had to pick a activity to do for the plan.

Next we picked how many people were aloud to play and how much helpers we needed.

Then we picked the location to play the game at.

After that we talked about  what could go wrong in the game or what can cause it to happen.

Then we discussed who's responsible for it.

Next we had to plan a emergency plan for the situation.

Lastly we started putting our ideas down on the plan.

Making Connection

The point of connection is to help the reader understand.

Text to text is relating something to another text.

Text to self is when you relate something to your self.

Text to  world is when you relate something to the community.

It is important because it help people with there reading and understanding.

it is important because it helps people with their reading and writing.

Time

There are three m's and it is mean, median, and mode.
Mean is known as average.
To do the mean you add all your numbers up then divide. To divide you check how many numbers are there and that's the number you divide.

Median, if you have five numbers you make them least to greatest. You choose the number in the middle and that is the median. If you have an even set of numbers you choose the two middle numbers then add it and divide it by two.

Mode, you write the numbers least to greatest. After that you choose the numbers that appear the most.
LI investigate units of time.

Character trait

In reading I learnt about fact and opinion. During this activity, I also learnt how to infer.

Firstly I wrote facts about the characters in the Gruffalo story.
For example: Snake strangles the mouse

Next I wrote opinions about the things the characters did in the story.
For example: The snake is strong because he strangles the mouse

Finally I created a character trait about each character personality.

I now understand that to get an opinion I have to use clues and keywords.

Setting Description

Setting description is created with an image of what a character’s place looks like, sounds like, smells like and feels like

When describing what the background looks like use adjectives such as logs, grass, and trees.

Sounds like, describes the sound of a character or the place. For example hissing and chirping.

Smells like, describes the smell of a character or their surroundings. For example, the snake's place smells like mould and bark.

Feels like, describes the touch of something. For example the log feels prickly and hard.

Risk Assessment

We learnt how to identify the levels of risk. We also learnt about assess likelihood.

First, we learnt about the five levels of danger. They are: low, likely, possible, elevated and extreme. Assess likelihood is to assess how likely it is that someone is exposed to the hazard.

After that, we rated 15 scenarios by the levels of risk. Then we discussed the consequences that can occur by the scenarios.

Lastly, we wrote down our own scenarios and rated the potential risk level for other people to try.

Hazard and Risk

LI: To demonstrate prior knowledge.

We investigated the hazards and risks in different places.

First we played Octopus and Four Corners. While we played these games, we identified if there were any dangers or accidents happening.

Afterwards, we identified the differences between hazards and risks. Hazards are things that can cause harm to people and the environment. Risks are the outcomes of causing harm to people or the environment.
Next, we listed down four hazards that could happen in our homes, schools, community and sports.

Lastly, we made posters that showed the risks of the different hazards.

This activity was amazing.

Character Description

Character descriptions tell about a character's appearance, their experiences, and their personality.
The appearance describes the characters face, their hair, their body, and their clothes.
The experience describes the characters family, friends, where they live, special interests, their hobbies, their talents, their secrets, and their achievements.
The personality describes the characters behaving, what kind of person they are, what they say, what makes them interesting, or different.
The reason for this activity was to describe using figurative languages and literal.

The Gruffalo

LI-To visualise part of the story

Visualisation is a strategy to help you think and use your imagination.

You have to listen to the story but you don't have a pictures to look at.

You have to thing about the words that describes the person or the animal.

Then you make up a picture in your head of what it looks like.

Visualisation helps you to picture things without looking at pictures.
